Music is Medicine Part 1
18/02/10 13:31
This weekend I truly experienced the
magic and medicine of Music once again.
Ramesh Kannan (tabla, percussion) and I were invited to play for John Friend, an amazing Yoga instructor that started Anusara Yoga here in the U.S. Friday night we came together to celebrate the darkest new moon of the year in a night of Music, spoken word and dance, Mahashivaratri. It was magical to say the least.
(that’s me in the background:)
Saturday we joined John Friend for two yoga classes. Ramesh and I have been fortunate enough to experience playing Live Music for Yoga classes and it always is an amazing experience but this one was a new high.
With over 200 people on their mats in the room, John looked at us and gave us a nod and we were off. The three of us merged like an all-star band and the looks on peoples faces were the sign that all was going well.
For four hours we joined together to create the Music while people healed their hearts and bodies, it was truly a joyous moment. The Music was a catalyst to support them in their healing and you could literally see it doing its job.
The response following the classes were so inspiring to hear the stories people shared with us. Live Music and Yoga together is sweet, try it soon!
After the second class I took a drive up to Lake Tahoe area to Squaw Valley where I met with friends who’s father/husband had just passed. I was there to pay my respects and play Music throughout the weekend. In an environment of celebration, loss, family, healing, sadness, hope and Love we cried, laughed, ate and shared memories. Music was there with us the whole time and created such a support for the healing process.
Again you could literally see the healing the Music was helping to create.
There are so many moments when life is just happening and in the background or foreground of those moments there She is. Music, sweet and nurturing always giving what She has with reckless abandon and grace. She is our mother, our healer for what are we all but vibration. Many particles merged together in consciousness, creation, vibration. Everything seems to be happening on a faster frequency these days and now as much as ever Music is here to help us heal and show us we are truly one. One song, One sound, One note, One people.
Without sound silence would not be so profound
Without silence sound would not be so profound
Sound is everywhere, silence is found in the spaces between, in your heart.
Stop what you are doing, listen and find that silence
There you will find who you truly are

"There are two aspects of individual harmony: the harmony between body and soul, and the harmony between individuals. All the tragedy in the world, in the individual and in the multitude, comes from lack of harmony. And harmony is the best given by producing harmony in one's own life. "

Birthday Blog
22/01/10 01:11
Well it’s 1:11 on January 22, 2010,
technically I wasn’t born for another
22 hours and 36 years ago but
nonetheless here I am. And really, I
wouldn’t be here without you, so here
we are together.
It is raining and has been for days. Last night hail the size of pecans covered the ground in a two inch white out. By the way I live in San Francisco Bay Area and that doesn’t happen very often here. Tonight I was with my friends playing music at an event to benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti, we raised $2500, which seems like so much and so little.
This life is quick, we are fortunate enough to know each other and share this moment. If I can stop, breathe, listen to my heart beat, really feel the vibration, then perhaps I can hear a little more clearly who I really am. Not the One doing all this stuff, yes that is I as well, but actually the One that realizes I am doing all this stuff. Confused Yet? So am I.
Anyway, I know that I have been gifted to have Music in my life, because she teaches us to release and know ourselves in the deepest way, as vibration.
This year it is my intention to surrender, to go as deeply as I possibly can into knowing the truth of who I am. When I say I, I mean You too because we are truly the same.
When I speak of knowing the truth of who I am, I am mean the I that is patient, quiet, knowing, wise, calm, compassionate, passionate, fierce, loyal, creative, true, love.
I hope that we can share in this gift of Music and Life more and more, this is my hope and prayer for 2010
Thanks to all the people that have wished me blessings on this day. Friends are truly what makes my world go around, Community, Support, Love, Family, Music, Good Food, Nature and Friends. I LOVE YOU
Todd

What music means to me...
20/01/10 21:02
All the religions and scientific
traditions basically agree, Vibration
created the whole darn thing...the
Sound, the One, the Word, the Aum, the
Big Bang!
It was vibration and yet all the world’s religions basically agree that it is through the vehicle of music that we carry our prayers and messages to God.
Science uses Vibration in nearly every experiment to prove or disprove the existence of anything.
We all are musical by nature even if we don’t play instruments or sing much, we are still connected by our birthright to what we call Music. The experience of vibration in the moment, pulsing in rhythm, much as the world turns, your mother’s heart beats, we sleep, we awake, we live, we die, we live again. And to this I say YES! Music is what makes the world go round. It brings us closer to be present with who we truly are, because Music demands from us that we be who we are in this moment. She is compassionate and ruthless all in the moment. She has created many universe and destroyed them one breath later.
This is the truth of who we are. We did not create music, no. Music has created us. We are merely instruments in a great orchestral arrangement conducted by Her. The players know there is some form but we are improvising our way to the end.
If we are smart, we will take time to know Her well. Through this act of spending our time with Her we know ourselves a little better. Because she is a great teacher and she is there any time of the day or night, just open your heart and she is here to teach you, to heal you, to nurture you and to release you completely.
Music is a gift to be shared with us all, to help unite us and bring us all closer to the ONE
more to come...
